Michele Jaquis


Michele Jaquis is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who examines the complexities within personal relationships, identity, language and communication. She has moved up and down the east coast most of her life, but relocated to Los Angeles in 2000, after receiving her MFA in sculpture from RISD. Her work has been shown internationally at venues such as Highways Performance Space and Gallery in Santa Monica, Institute of Cultural Inquiry in Los Angeles, Art at 12 in Boston, SoundWalk in Long Beach, Freewaves 11th Biennial Film, Video and New Media Arts Festival in Hollywood, Palm Beach ICA in FL, Exit Art in New York City, ReelHeArt International Film Festival in Toronto, Victoria Independent Film Festival in Sebastapol, Austrailia. Awards include 2011 Otis College of Art and Design Faculty Development Grant, 2009 Vermont Studio Center Artist Grant, and Best Documentary at the 2008 Director’s Chair Film Festival in Staten Island. Michele has taught at RISD, Cal Sate Long Beach and UC Riverside and Otis College of Art and Design where she is currently Assistant Professor and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Michele is also co-founder, with Jeremy J. Quinn, of the bi-coastal collective Rise Industries and a collaborating member of both the People’s Microphony Camerata and NEIGHBORGAPBRIDGE.
